national cuisine
I have just this minute received this in an email from a good friend of mine:
I went to get m'lumch just now in the In-Shops (forgive me, it's close by).
I asked at the chippy for a gravy chip with peas onions.
"We can't do thon, thons a Chinese meal so'it'us."
"can do ye a gravy chip wi peas or a gravy chip w'onions, but not both. It's a Chinese meal so'it'us, we're a chippy love".
The bit that took me to the fair was the kindly and condescending tone in which she informed me that a gravy chip w/peas & onions was a Chinese dish; as if I was a little backward and had her utmost pity for my lack of wit.
Interesting that it takes the peas/onions combo to elevate this to Chinese cuisine, perhaps they react together to form Kung Po Sauce or something?
